I think I have Levi’s and Vans. I don’t know if anything else is really branded. They are probably either Target or Goodwill
Why these brands?
Vans are really comfortable and squishy, something to stand on all day. Levi’s I always think of as durable, but I don’t actually think of this pair as that durable. I was hoping to get four or five years out of them (apparently, that is not the case with this pair).
Do Either Have a Positive Impact on Society?
Probably not. Like, Levi’s used to be super conscious about the way they do business, but I don’t think they are anymore, from what I heard. I know that they like, moved all of their warehouses to Malaysia or something like that. I think that is a sketchy place to do business, there are poor working conditions. I don’t really know much about Vans, how they make their shoes or anything.
You know I normally prefer to buy my stuff used. But it is hard to find good Levi’s in a thrift store.
Does shared value drive any other of your purchasing decisions?
No, and you mentioned Tom’s and Warby Parker earlier. I know that Warby Parker and Tom’s shoes give something away every time you buy them, but I never really thought of them as companies that are conscious of their impact on the world.
Would shared value make you change your mind about the products you buy?
Maybe. If I was in a store and I knew that an eight-year-old made my jeans and the other pair was made by someone who gets a good wage; if they were the same quality it would definitely change my decision.
